Gravesite Visit - Posted by James Mount
Kristin and I just returned from going to the gravesite in Riverside. It was a Saturday, so traffic was relatively light on the way there. We wanted to bring flowers, so we searched out a Costco on the way there and Kristin picked out a very nice bouquet. We passed several groves of orange trees on the way there and decided that we should stop on the way back to get some to bring home.
When we arrived, we drove around aimlessly looking for section 56A, which we were thankfully directed to from the VA website for Riverside Cemetary. The website was impressive in that it had already been updated with Grandma's information, and it has only been 10 days since the burial.
If you have not been to the gravesite before, it is in a very remote area, but based on the signs all over, it is getting built up with new housing in rapid fashion. The cemetary itself is in a beautiful spot and has fountains and ponds and very nice landscaping. There was also a memorial wall as you drive in, which was very nice, and we include a picture of here.
It was interesting to see that there also happened to be an airshow going on about a mile away. So while we were there, there were several flyovers; much deserved by both grandparents. Enjoy the pictures of the site. We had a good time there and back, and the oranges were delicious (and cheap too). We spent $6.55 and bought 5# of tangerines, 8# of oranges, a pint of strawberries and a bag of 5 avocados. In VT, it would have been at least that much for just the strawberries and avocados.
