Birthday Party! - Posted by Steve Mount

We had a gathering at the playground of our local school today, to celebrate Brittany's 12th birthday. It was also a chance for everyone to say goodbye to her, as she is about to embark on her journey to whale camp.

Everyone had a good time and enjoyed each other's company, in spite of the 93 degree temperatures and high humidity. All winter we look forward to summer, and, it seems, all summer we long for winter's icy coolness.

In attendance were Karen's parents, Terry and Kay, and her brother Rick and his family, Nicole, Emily, Haley, Courtney, and Samantha. Kristin and Nick were there, as were Fran and her mom Paula; James and Kelly were there with their brood, Samantha, Tommy, Danny, and Joey - Chris is away visiting his mom; and Rob and Bridget were there with Andrew and David. Dad was away for a business trip and Rick and Julie were away. Of course, Karen, Brittany, Jacob, Ryan, and I were all there, too.

We got pizzas from a local eatery (I told the people at the pick-up counter not to worry that they had cooled too much!) and a sheet cake from a local bakery (far superior to any grocery store or Costco cake). Several people brought bottles of soda and water. The only thing we all forgot: a camera. We were only five minutes from our house, but no one wanted to trek to the cars and get in on to make the trip. So you'll have to just imagine.

We're glad to be home in the cool, air-conditioned indoors, and we're looking forward to a thunderstorm tomorrow to break the heat.

We had a showing of our house today, and our Realtor said that he got more calls this weekend about our house than any other of his listings. Hopefully, that will translate to a contract - we'll see. I've been writing about the house plans on another blog, if you care to read up on it.
