51 houses later... - Posted by Rob
We had a pretty busy week here in Essex Junction. Over the weekend we had someone look at our house twice. Then on Monday, we got an offer. While i don't recall the exact figure of the first offer, we eventually settled on knocking $7000 off the price of our house and agreeing to paint a room and fix some fence posts that are rotting.
As soon as we agreed to a price and signed the paperwork, we got busy looking at a group of five houses. Our realtor told us he had showed us 40 houses so far, plus the six (that i remember) house that were "for sale by owner". Of the previous 46 houses we had seen, only one or two really knocked our socks off. In fact, we kept our eye on one house until it disappeared from the MLS a week before ours went under contract.
The last five we looked at had three likely candidates. We were very exicited to even find one that we liked so much, but three!? Time to call in the experts. We got Karen and Dad to agree to come up and give us their opinions. Bridget and i eliminated one of the houses just based on location. It was in a small town 10 miles from any grocery store or any major services.
After a second look, we choose #47 as "the one".
Of course, it was kind of hard to pass up the view of the "neighbor" to the front:
Our buyer wanted a fast closing and is paying cash, so rather than the normal four to six week closing date, we're closing on the 15th of Sept, just three weeks away! I simply cannot wait!
